The Madness of Don Quixote...

I saw a film with John Lithgow and Bob Hoskins about the story of Don Quixote de la Mancha. It's a really fascinating story and I thought I'd do a fun little character illustration of them wandering through the desert. It ended up being quite large so I've included a close-up of it too.

I started out doing this piece for fun but it turned into something else and I think it'll look great on my envelopes... a more personal touch to sending out promotional material with my own stationary art. I really love all that whole post-war classic retro sci-fi aesthetic, it's so much more fun and optimistic, the innocence of the genre in a way. I plan to do futher illustrations like this and Return to Planet Bowie... ...that doesn't actually mean I'll be returning to planet Bowie... I'll shut up now.

This is a little pug dog I did for fun this week. I realised I don't do many animal illustrations and should give it a bash to at least show some range. I will dedicate this illustration to my friend Vicki who has been searching for a little furry friend for months now.

Here's a quick illustration I've done for a Christmas card. Am happy with it tho felt it was a bit rushed. Am off on holiday to Singapore for 3 weeks today and I'm still at the computer. Somebody stop me!

Return to Planet Bowie

I completed this illustration late last week and I'm very proud of it. I've been listening to a lot of Bowie, old stuff like Ziggy Stardust, Starman, Life on Mars as well as Rocketman and The Flight of the Conchords' Bowie's in Space... they all inspired me to do this homage to them. I'm planning to use it as my first 2008 promotional postcard.

Stereotypes: Italian Cameraman

This is another illustration I did for Red Bulletin Magazine, less than a fortnight after Helen Paradyce. They have a regular page article that pokes fun at a stereotype in the Formula 1 world. A previous one was a French Formula 1 fan, but they wanted me to do a stereotypical sleazy swarthy lecherous Italian Cameraman (not saying they're all like that!). So, throw in a beer gut, messy grey hair, sleazy smile, heavy tan and a camera and voilà!

Helen Paradyce

This is an illustration I did for Red Bulletin Magazine, Red Bull's Formula 1 Magazine, commissioned by James Greenhow. It was completed back in October actually but I haven't had chance to post it on here. Took less than a day to do and was lots of fun. Helen Paradyce is a fictional character like Patsy Stone from Ad Fab, she boozes around and hangs out in the drivers pit with the young men. She has a column in tha magazine and this accompanied it.

This is a waiter I felt like doing, bit of a portfolio filler/ experiment. I've been watching a lot of animated shows like The Venture Brothers, Futurama, American Dad and reading lots of Jack Kirby comics. Its all very inspirational and I'mk enjoying working in a more cartoony style.

Metalheads

This is an illustration I'm doing for a gift book for Harper Collins titled "What Would a Metalhead Do?" Its going to be a collection of funny illustrated scenarios. This is a sneek preview, the scenario is "Your best friend really sucks on guitar and is messing up the band." It then gives you a few funny options, which I won't spoil for anyone now.

I love drawing big hairy biker & hippe types, don't know what that says about me... having a beard and being a huge Bill Bailey fan are my only excuses. Hello there!

Welcome to my Illustration Blog! I've been wanting to do one of these things for ages now and I've finally gotten it off the ground.

I will be using this blog to run alongside my website as a place to showcase recent work & personal experiments. I do all of my work in pen and ink and apply colour and texture digitally.
